Hi there,

We keep our tagline...

National advocacy, Connection & Awareness

at the heart of everything we do.

We are advocating in the ongoing and seemingly never-ending NDIS consultation process with six submissions in this year alone! We are leading the Ban Paraquat fight with our ally, Senator David Pocock in the senate inquiry. One of the small ways you can help us is to sign and share the petition.

Connect with us for our special webinar on continence - anyone that knows us, knows that we love a good chat about how to manage our bladder!

A massive thanks to Liam Henry for his commitment to raising awareness. Something him and his amazing partner Soph decided to do for her Dad, Gav, who lives with Parkinson's. Check out their socials if you want some good vibes and exercise inspiration!

Yours in advocacy and change,

Olivia and the Parkinson's Australia Team

NOT TO BE MISSED! Continence is one of the most common and least talked about challenges for people living with Parkinson's. That's exactly why we're changing the conversation.

Join us for The Continence Conversation with Sheena Lagat, where we'll explore the latest innovations in continence management, practical ways to take control of your care, and how to find the right support.

    Our advocacy work

We continue to lead national advocacy for people living with Parkinson’s and the issues that matter most to our community.

!! NDIS CUTS TO SOCIAL, ECONOMIC & COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AS WELL AS IMPROVED DAILY LIVING BUDGETS ACROSS THE BOARD ARE NOW IN EFFECT (See Oct 1 changes) !!

How this change may affect your budget
Changes to funding for social, economic and community participation and improved daily living skills supports will be applied to participants’ plans after they are created, reassessed or renewed.

This will reduce the amount available in participants’ plans by:

    • 50% for social, economic and community participation supports

    • 10% for improved daily living skills supports.

You will notice the cuts from your Core Supports bucket in these two categories. The cuts ARE NOT reviewable (i.e. you cannot go to the  Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) to review the cut because all plans are cut across the board through the Minister's support determination.)

    NDIS Reform advocacy
We advocate for early intervention pathways and equitable access to supports through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

This year, we have contributed six submissions, so far, to key NDIS consultations, including the Support Coordination and Connections (SCC) and the ACCESS Consultations. We are now preparing our submission to the NEW FRAMEWORK Consultation.

These reforms will shape how people with Parkinson’s access disability supports in the future. We encourage you to make a submission and ensure your lived experience is represented in these important decisions.

    #BanParaquat
Parkinson’s Australia is the leading voice in the national #BanParaquat campaign. Our advocacy, alongside researchers, health experts, people living with Parkinson’s and partner organisations, has helped bring greater scrutiny to the continued use of paraquat in Australia.

The campaign has progressed to a Senate Inquiry examining how the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) decided to retain approval for paraquat despite significant evidence of health and environmental risks.

JOIN OVER 21,000 people and sign our Change.org Petition today!

We will continue to advocate for action that reduces preventable risk factors associated with Parkinson’s and protects the health of Australian communities.

Featured Fundraiser: Lap it Up for Parkinson's

    Lap it Up for Parkinsons

Liam’s father-in-law Gav was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's at just 38 years old... He's now 51.

On October 10, Liam ran 10 laps (~70kms) around the Nepean River for Gav, raising awareness and funds for Parkinson's Australia!

His why: “because he deserves to be celebrated for the strength and resilience he's shown throughout his journey. I'm also running for everyone else living with Parkinson's,
and for the families who walk alongside them every day.”

EOIs sought for RRR Advisory Group & people willing to be filmed for training videos.

Parkinson's Australia is building the Parkinson's disease Education eXchange (PDEX) for GPs and allied health professionals (AHPs) on Parkinson's. We need people living with Parkinson's to shape it. We have two ways for you to take part:

      1. Join the PDEX advisory group
We are recruiting one person with Parkinson's who lives in a small rural town or remote area (Modified Monash Model areas MM5 to MM7). You will help guide the project and make sure the education reflects life outside major cities.
      2. Appear in our PDEX training videos
We are looking for people with Parkinson's who want to talk about their experience on camera. Your story will help GPs and AHPs understand what good care looks like.

      How to register your interest
Email info@parkinsons.org.au by Tuesday 13 October. Tell us which opportunity you are interested in, where you live, and a little about your experience with Parkinson's.

Not sure if your area qualifies? Modified Monash Model, Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing
